Among the challenges facing geophysicists is delivering accurate predictions of rock properties from 3-D data in depth in timely manners. New approaches to obtaining rock property predictions are being tried and tested in the search to get more from 3-D seismic to help in reserves estimates and prospect risking. Houston-Three-dimensional seismic data have been employed in the oil and gas industry since the early 1970s when the first 3-D field experiment was conducted in New Mexico. Since that introduction to 3-D structural imaging, 3-D subsurface imaging has become an accepted technology for volumetric reserves estimation between wells.
