GE Adopts BOP System For Deepwater Drilling

GE Oil & Gas has launched its next-generation SeaONYX blowout preventer surface control system and operator interface. Designed for high-speed, reliable performance in the deepwater drilling environment, the company says its new system incorporates GE's Mark Vie hardware and Proficy software tools. Controlling subsea equipment are dual redundant electronic control systems that typically are customized designs using components from multiple vendors, GE Oil & Gas says. By using its Mark Vie control components, the company reports, the SeaONYX control system uses an industry-accepted configuration installed in more than 2,000 thermal, wind, hydro and nuclear facilities. The company adds its Mark Vie technology provides a large support network for the system's hardware and software.
