Apache Reports Oil Find Offshore Western Australia

Light oil samples recovered from the Phoenix South-1 discovery well drilled by Apache Corporation in Australia's offshore Canning Basin indicate a productive reservoir with as much as 300 million barrels of oil in place, the company reports. Apache says wireline and formation pressure tools have confirmed at least four discrete oil columns ranging in thickness from 85 to 151 feet in the Triassic Lower Keraudren formation within a sand-rich section between 13,648 and 14,763 feet below sea level. The Phoenix South-1 well is located on permit WA-435-P, 110 miles north of Port Hedland offshore western Australia in 435 feet of water. Apache says it has a 40 percent working interest and opera-torship of the prospect.
