As in-person conferences begin to regain momentum, the oil and gas industry is starting to see some creative approaches to attract interest and attendees. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend one such event and participate in a unique approach to showcasing new innovations and technology. In July, the Gulf Coast Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers hosted its third Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit, which was two days in Houston focused on promoting the exchange of ideas, experiences and opportunities among oil and gas entrepreneurs and experts. Essentially, it seemed, anyone with a good idea for our industry was there. But perhaps what made the event unique was its annual "Shark Tank" event, in which startup companies had an opportunity to pitch their ideas to leading regional investment groups.
