One-Pipe Geothermal Design: Simplified GCHP System

Mescher presents the simplified ground-coupled heat pump systems using a one-pipe central distribution (distributed primary-secondary) loop that can save first costs and operating costs. Although not used until recently, one-pipe building distribution systems offer many advantages to geothermal and heat pump applications. What started out as an exercise in improving system efficiency through an improved pumping strategy has produced additional benefits, beginning with simple, easy to understand systems with low maintenance.
