Wrangham et al. (2009; p 234, Table 2) list the esti-nmated ages and taxonomic status of hominins recoverednfrom the southern African palaeocaves. They do so mostlynby placing question marks beside apparent ages. In somencases, both the dates and taxonomic affinity of homininsnprovided are incorrect or out of date. We are concernednhere mostly about the common misreporting and some-ntimes misrepresentation of dating methodologies, age esti-nmates, and their implications, many of which we havenourselves conducted and published.
