Computer-generated images are now so sophisticated that they are being used for marketing instead of photos of the finished products. Justin Cunningham reports on the rise and rise of 3D modeling. COMPUTER-aided design and engineering provider Autodesk is keen to convert all the non-believers to 3D modelling. But it is just as keen to point out that there is no point in adding an extra dimension just for the sake of it. "The interesting thing is, 3D modelling is not just done for that extra D," says Carl Bass, president and chief executive officer of Autodesk. "We don't do it just so you can do it in 3D. Many people are quite capable of expressing themselves in 3D with just a napkin and a pencil."
