As the site is cleared ready for the construction of the main venues, the framework for how smaller engineering firms can receive an Olympic boost is also taking shape. In six years this month, the flaming torch of the Olympic games will be carried to what is today a mostly disused industrial wasteland in east London. It is a year this month since the bid was won in Singapore. In the interim, politicians have debated, committees have been created, but details of design and requirements have been scarce. Interest has remained high, though, from a public enthralled by the glamour of hosting the celebrated event, and from businesses wishing to cash in on the supply contracts bonanza.
