Scramjet test attempts to reach Mach 8

Qinetiq has carried out a scramjet experiment that, it hopes, achieved an astonishing Mach 8 (or about 8000km/hr). The HyShot III trial, at Woomera, 500km north of Adelaide, South Australia, is part of efforts to revolutionise the launch of small space payloads, such as mini or micro low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellites, by substantially lowering costs. A team of researchers is presently analysing data from the experiment.
