Unintentional overdose of insulin glargine

Insulin glargine is a long-acting recom-binant human insulin analogue administered once daily for use as basal insulin therapy. When subcutancously injected, it exhibits a relatively flat blood-level-versus-time curve, with a peak response in 3 hours and a 24-hour duration of action. We present a case of an unintentional overdose of insulin glargine without significant morbidity that was managed at home.rnA 55-year-old, 81.8-kg woman with a history of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus inadvertently injected 100 units (twice her usual daily dose) of insulin glargine by mistaking a 1-mL syringe for a 0.5-mL syringe.
