摘要

In the dozen years since the widespread adoption of the Internet, firms selling digitiz-able content-text, music, and video-have experienced serious threats to their traditional revenue sources. The recorded music industry was the first to face the threat; after seeing its revenues rise for decades prior to 1999, revenues have fallen steadily since, both in the US and internationally. Music is not the only sector that has seen its fortunes decline. The US newspa per industry has also experienced a substantial reduction in revenue that most observers attri bute to the arrival of the Internet.
