Just two years have passed since Suren-dra and Carolyn Kumar, owners of Oak-wood The Greener Cleaner, opened their new plant to much fanfare in Hermitage, Tenn. The freestanding structure―a striking departure from Oakwood's original strip location―is given at least some of the credit for the business' recent growth, and took Special Honors in American Drycleaner's 42nd Annual Plant Design Awards. In the face of such success, some would have been hesitant to introduce any changes. The Kumars, however, are no strangers to technology, and recently made an addition to the already state-of-the-art plant: a Metal-progetti automated assembly conveyor. Though installing a completely new conveyor system is a daunting task for any plant, the Kumars saw the technology as an opportunity to further streamline production. Confident that it would integrate with their computer system, they went forward. "It wasn't a difficult decision for us," Surendra says. "We're dedicated to staying at the forefront of industry technology, and given what we've seen of Metalprogetti's system and our experience with Compass-Max, we knew this was the way to go."
