1. Place a quarter-sheet cake on a corresponding cake board and ice it with buttercream. Cover the cake with a smooth layer of white fondant. Hold a straightedge horizontally across the cake surface, one-third of the way down from the top edge. Spray blue airbrush coloring onto the cake at the base of the straightedge by sweeping the airbrush from side to side. The color at the base of the straightedge should be darker, then fading as the distance from straightedge increases. The blue coloring should fade away completely just after crossing the halfway point of the cake top.
