Carnations tinged with bright pink and cheery pansies accent a birdhouse with gingerbread-trim. Ice a quarter-sheet cake with a smooth coat of buttercream icing, then set it aside to crust. Prepare bags of colored buttercream for use on the cake: sky blue, avocado green, lemon yellow, pink, and violet. Tint 1/4 cup of piping gel black and load it into a cone made from acetate or heavy plastic. Fold the open end closed, then tape the end tightly against the side of the bag.
