In machining technology, tool manufacturers hold the key position. A cutting tool optimally designed for the job in hand is ultimately the decisive factor in ensuring high quality of the components produced and economic operation of the machining step. This article presents three specific examples chosen from the industrial practice of a thread-cutting specialist, and compares the different cutting methods used.%Die Bedeutung des Marktsegmentes „Maschinenbau" für Aluminiumerzeugnisse wird allgemein unterschätzt. Heute steht der Maschinenbau - nach Verkehrssektor und Bauwesen - mit ca. 11 % an dritter Stelle aller Verbrauchergruppen. Vor allem Strangpreßprofile spielen in diesem Bereich eine wichtige Rolle. Welche Möglichkeiten Strangpreßprofile dem Maschinenbaukonstrukteur bieten, wird an Beispielen erläutert.
