Moving Ecosystems

Notions of what constitutes untouched wilderness and what is an invasive species are currently in flux. While traditional natural resource managers are focused on eliminating non-native invasives and controlling native species that have become pests, many are questioning the legitimacy of these distinctions. There is increased awareness of historical human practices that have modified landscapes previously considered pristine - for instance, many grassland and savanna landscapes were created by ancient land managers through fire. And climate change will cause some species to move into new territory in an effort to survive. This leads to questions about the nature of, well, nature.
