UK GOVERNMENT ENDS ITS INDEPENDENT COMMISSION ON CIVIL AVIATION NOISE (ICCAN)

The UK’s Independent Commission on Civil Aviation Noise (ICCA) – launched in 2019 to improve the way aviation noise is managed in the UK and to increase public confidence and trust in that management – was shut shut down by the Conservative British Government in September. The decision to terminate ICCAN follows publication earlier this year of its corporate strategy for the next three years in which the Commission sought to be given statutory adviser status with the power to make recommendations to the UK Government on the management and mitigation of aviation noise and to provide advice and guidance that must be considered by the Government and delegated authorities on all aviation noise related issues. However, this quest for more authority by ICCAN was not mentioned by the Government as a reason for ending the Commission.
