FAA PROPOSES LTO NOISE CERTIFICATION STANDARDS FOR NEW SUPERSONIC AIRCRAFT

FAA took a major step toward reintroducing supersonic commercial air travelon March 30 when the agency proposed noise certification standards for the initialclass of new supersonic aircraft currently under development.The agency issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that sets landingand takeoff (LTO) noise certification standards for new supersonic airplanes thathave a maximum takeoff weight no greater than 150,000 pounds and a maximumoperating cruise speed up to Mach 1.8.
