Teathrow Airport's runway rehabilitation project started in April 2013 with completion due by September 2014 Given that Heathrow is the busiest two runway airport hub in the world this is a massive project that has required some innovative ways of working to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. The project involves the complete re-surfacing of both runways over 130km of cabling and 1,000 new LED Aeronautical Ground Lights will be installed. The £20 million make-over of the southern runway has already been completed. Some 22,000 tonnes of old runway surface has been removed and replaced in 3 1/2 months.
