Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport

Situated in the central Westphalia region of Germany, between the two towns that gave it its name, is Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport (PAD). Built to allow a traditionally agricultural area to play an increasing role in the 1960s' business world, it has witnessed many changes in its relatively short history. The first ad-hoc passenger service took place in 1971, operated from the taxiway under visual flight rules (VFR). The first administration building opened four years later, coinciding with the first scheduled passenger services - to Frankfurt - operated by the fledgling regional carrier RFG which, along with NFD, eventually evolved into today's Eurowings.
