In June this year, Airbus announced plans to increase the monthly production rate of its popular A320 Family aircraft to 64, by the second quarter of 2023. The production levels as of June 2, 2021 stand at 40 per month, which is expected to increase to 45 by the end of this year. To add to the manufacturer's post-pandemic ramp-up plan, the European OEM is also reported to have asked suppliers to enable Rate 70 by early 2024 and is apparently considering a scenario for Rate 75 by 2025. These numbers indicate that Airbus could potentially deliver between 480 and 520 new A320 Family aircraft annually until 2023, before increasing to some 800-850 deliveries in the 2024-2025 timeframe. Is the market ready for all these aircraft? And what is driving Airbus' potential increased production rate?
