Gloucestershire-based Skyborne Airline Academy opened its first flight training facility in the United States on May 1. This comes after it completed the successful acquisition of Vero Beach Flight Academy in Florida. Skyborne has revealed that it will be offering a range of pilot training courses at Vero Beach. These include airline pathway options with leading US carriers, a full-time Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 141-approved, 12-month residential training programme, along with various instrument, instructor and private courses. The commercial pilot training provider will take advantage of the Sunshine State's favourable meteorological conditions - which offers approximately 320 flying days annually - for its cadets on Skyborne's UK Civil Aviation Authority Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) programme; the students are initially based at Gloucestershire Airport in the UK. Additionally, trainees from its IndiGo Cadet Pilot course (see Airliner World, April edition) will use Vero Beach as a base to complete their US FAA 141 CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence) SEIR (single-engine instrument rating) and ME (multi-engine) training. Lee Woodward, chief executive officer of Skyborne Aviation Group Limited, said: "[This] is a milestone for Skyborne as we officially enter the US pilot training market. Skyborne Airline Academy Vero Beach will be a world-class facility in a prime geographic location. The timing is optimal as the global demand for pilots will outpace supply as the world emerges from the pandemic. We are committed to attracting the top talent in the United States and are on course to offer the best flight training facility in the country, backed by decades of experience and long-standing relationships with the world's leading airlines." Skyborne's 30-acre Florida campus features numerous amenities for students, including 200 renovated bedrooms, cafes, a football pitch and a swimming pool.
