One fatal crash a week

Cengiz Turkoglu, the chairman of the International Federation of Airworthiness' technical committee has stated that an increased accident rate is "inevitable" given predicted traffic growth. This is despite 2014 being the safest year ever in terms of accidents. "Growing commercial air transport is fuelling economic growth in many countries and the only way to sustain this growth is to continue maintaining public confidence in the system, he said. "The commercial aviation accident rate has decreased significantly over the decades, but, if a further reduction cannot be achieved in the coming years, by 2030, the predicted traffic growth will inevitably generate one fatal accident per week."
