The service was first mooted in 2012. Flying instructor Rune Balle's vision was to connect Copenhagen and Aarhus as well as serving both cities from the small island of Samso (located between the two), where he was based. Balle intended to use a Cessna Caravan and name the operation Samso Seaplanes. The plans didn't materialise, however, until 2014 when Lasse Rungholm and Lars Erik Nielsen came on board, with the pair eventually assuming full control of the operation in February 2016. Rungholm is a lawyer and commercial pilot, while Nielsen is a businessman (he owns part of the Semler Group, importing Volkswagen Group.
