The British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) in Alberta on the Canadian prairies provides the army with a realistic environment for its manoeuvres, including live firing by armoured battle groups. Seven times the size of Salisbury Plain, the area requires air support to meet the logistical and communications needs of armoured brigades working the ranges. The unit responsible for this is 29 (BATUS) Flight, part of 5 Regiment Army Air Corps, now equipped with Gazelle AH 1s.
