Engine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have tended to be more involved in the maintenance of their products than airframe manufacturers, and this has increased as engine technology has become more complex. The introduction of the latest-generation of narrowbody engines from CFM and Pratt & Whitney looks likely to increase further the manufacturers' participation in the maintenance of their respective engines.
