Virtual reality: flight simulators and training

The way pilots and maintenance personnel are being trained is rapidly changing thanks to advances in technology. But can training organisations meet the rising demand for their services across the globe? Jason Holland investigates.A full-flight simulator replicates the cockpit of specific aircraft types. They recreate the environment, operational characteristics and conditions by use of visual, audio and motion stimuli and data (such as specific types of weather). The training of flight crew, cabin attendants, and maintenance technicians and engineers might be provided by an airline in-house or by a dedicated training company.
