Boeing finds its range

Long-distance flying records are changing hands as often as football trophies with Airbus and Boeing both fighting it out. Last year a Singapore Airlines A340-500 flying from Singapore to New York took the record from a Continental Airlines 777-200ER flight from New York to Hong Kong, with the A340-500's flight two hours longer. Now the Boeing 777 family is set to capture the record once more with the introduction of the 777-200LR, which was unveiled in Seattle in February. With three auxiliary fuel tanks, the 777-200LR will make non-stop flights possible between London and Sydney and even Sydney and New York. Boeing has hinted that the aircraft will be present in June at this year's Paris Airshow and will then leave for its record-breaking journey.
