Airport Privatisation In India: A case study of Delhi International Airport

The reasons for the objectives of privatisation not being met can be attributed to lack of inter-agency coordination, unrealistic contract conditions, conflict of interest of AAI which also has the role of monitoring the project, absence of an independent economic regulator, and absence of competition. It also appears that stringent contract conditions like high revenue sharing and absorption of 60 per cent of AAI staff at DIAL may not be practical or sustainable in the long run.
