Aviation regulatory authorities are warning of the dangers unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) pose to civil aircraft in the wake of a spate of incidents in which UAVs have come perilously close to airliners. The issue of UAVs interfering with commercial aircraft became frighteningly real in July when a Lufthansa crew on approach to Warsaw reported a near-miss with an unmanned aircraft. The Embraer E-195 with 108 passengers on board was arriving from Munich, on approach at about 2,500 ft. altitude, when the crew reported an UAV coming within 100 meters (330 ft.) of the airliner.
