GLIDER FANS are about to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Orville Wright's setting a soaring record: nine minutes, 45 seconds aloft over Kitty Hawk on October 24,1911. Several early-aviation and soaring associations will work with the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau to stage flying and static displays of vintage and modern gliders at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Three replica Wright 1911 gliders are expected to fly at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head, site of the largest active dune on the Atlantic coast where soaring is still permitted.
