I was struck by how much history is contained in Boeing's Milestones app, certainly because of the company's impressive history of producing all types of aircraft since 1916, but also because of the complex history of the aerospace business. What's a North American P-51 Mustang doing here? Well, North American became part of Rockwell, which in 1996 was subsumed by Boeing. The app contains plenty of McDonnell and Douglas aircraft as well, as evidenced by the McDonnell Douglas "swoop" in Boeing's logo, an homage to those iconic companies (themselves merged into McDonnell Douglas in 1967, which was acquired by Boeing in 1997). Boeing is the ultimate survivor, the oldest aerospace company in the world.
