A Reunion of Vampires

Last october, 20 members of the 553rd Reconnaissance Wing detachment-the Vampires-met up at the Commemorative Air Force airshow in Midland, Texas, for their first reunion since serving in Vietnam in the early 1970s. The Vampires flew the QU-22, a modified version of the Beechcraft Model 36 Bonanza that was used as an airborne relay platform. Beech delivered 27 to the Air Force, fitted with electronics that received signals from acoustic and seismic sensors air-dropped along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the main enemy supply line.
