RMP Requirements Revised

On April 9, 2004 (69 FR 18819-18832), EPA revised the reporting requirements in the agency's chemical accident prevention regulations in 40 CFR Part 68. The April 9, 2004 action includes the following changes to the Part 68 reporting requirements: 1. Three new data elements must now be included in risk management plans (RMPs), 2. Information on reportable chemical accidents must be added to the RMP within six months of the date of an accident, 3. Changes to emergency contact information must be reported within 30 days, and 4. The requirement to include a brief description of offsite consequences in the RMP executive summary has been eliminated. In addition, EPA has revised the program used to submit RMPs (RMP*Submit) to expand the list of possible accident causes so as to include uncontrolled chemical reactions.
