NSPS Proposed for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines

On July 11, 2005 (70 FR 39870-39904), EPA proposed new source performance standards (NSPS) for stationary compression ignition internal combustion engines. Facilities such as power plants and chemical and manufacturing plants use these engines to generate electricity, and to power pumps and compressors. Such engines are also used to pump water for fire and flood control. The proposed standards require engine manufacturers to produce engines that meet emission standards that currently, or will soon, apply to new off-road mobile sources. Therefore, for the most part, owners/ operators who purchase new stationary compression ignition internal combustion engines will be able to rely on engine manufacturer certifications to demonstrate compliance with the NSPS emission limits. When finalized, the NSPS will be codified as 40 CFR Part 60, Subpart IIII.
