PLA Helicopters Fly Coastal Patrol

Helicopters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) flew their first coastal defence patrol on March 18, according to a report that appeared two days later in Jiefangjun Bao, the PLA newspaper. Two helicopters belonging to an aviation brigade of the Guangzhou Military Area Command flew a mission covering 150km (93 miles) off the Wanshan Islands. The sortie included visually identifying an unknown vessel off Dawanshan Island as a merchant ship.
