Turkey's Savunma Sanayii Muestesarlg (Undersecretariat for Defence Industries) recently announced updates on a number of unmanned air vehicle programmes, including two tactical UAVs. Vestel Savunma is the main contractor developing the Karayel ('Dark Wind') catapult launched UAV. It was awarded a $24 million contract in December 2010 to produce the system - a total of six Karayel UAVs, together with three ground control stations and a catapult launcher, will be procured for the Turkish military.
