Malaysia's Defence Minister, Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, announced during LIMA '13 that the proposed upgrade for the Royal Malaysian Air Force's ageing Sikorsky S-61A-4 Nuri transport helicopter fleet will go ahead. Malaysia is currently receiving 12 Eurocopter EC725 Caracals to partially replace the Nuri in the combat search and rescue role and additional examples were expected to be acquired to meet transport needs. However, the minister's announcement in favour of a Nuri upgrade places these plans in doubt.
