On a bright autumn morning the first Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), JA21MJ (c 10001), made its first appearance wearing the distinctive black, red and gold house colours of its manufacturer Mitsubishi Aircraft (MITAC). Traditional Japanese Taiko drums and a school choir provided a soundtrack. The ceremony - at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' (MHI's) Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works, outside the city of Komaki in Aichi Prefecture on the island of Honshu - was a significant moment for Japan's aerospace industry. "A product made in Japan is at long last about to leave the realm of dreams and become a reality," said Hideaki Omiya, chairman of MHI.
