UAC Increasing Emphasis on Civil Aircraft

Mikhail Pogosyan, President of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), predicts that by 2020 half of the company's business will be civil aircraft. He states that Russia has all the competencies to be able to develop new designs that can compete with the dominant Airbus and Boeing airliners in the market. "There is a place for new players," he said. "For over 20 years we had not produced any civil aircraft, but since the success of the SSJ100, we are developing a family of civil aircraft step-by-step. They are not copies of Airbus or Boeing [airliners], but we have to produce more innovative products in order to move forward. Our civil aircraft are highly integrated and we are keen on further development with our international partners. I believe this wnuld be of mutual benefit."
