SABR Passes CDR in F-16

Critical design review (CDR) of the integration of the Northrop Grumman Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) active electronically scanned array radar in a Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon has been completed. The manufacturer announced the end of the CDR on August 20. SABR is a component of the wider F-16V upgrade currently under development. An enhanced mission computer, vehicle systems, structural changes, and advanced cockpit and electronic warfare systems will be incorporated in the new variant. The F-16V was launched in February 2012 at the Singapore Airshow. The Republic of China Air Force is the launch customer for the F-16V. All 144 F-16A/B Block 20s will be modernised under the terms of a contract awarded to Lockheed Martin on October 1, 2012 (see Contract for Taiwanese F-16 Modernisation Awarded, November 2012, p22).
