BASED at Cork in southern Ireland, regional airline opcrator Jctmagic has been conceived to offer a quality service with relatively low fares. The secrets of its success are its choice of aircraft (opting for a modern fleet of Embraer regional jets), finding an uncontested market with a natural demand, and a no-nonsense approach to business. Some examples of the latter arc the speed and efficiency with which Jetmagic has achieved its goals ― flying its first revenue service from London City Airport (LCY) within three days of achieving Joint Airworthiness Authority Certification, reducing the time taken for aircraft checks and even reducing the number of stops during transit flights. All of this was achieved 'as if by rnagic', but in reality it has required a forward-looking strategy, careful planning and hard work. Jetmagic was the brainchild of the airline's first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Raftery and Chief Operating Officer Jochen Jock' Schnadt, whilst they were both studying at Cranficld University, in Bedfordshire. (Patrick has since left the company and was replaced by Barry Perrott, formerly CEO of Flybe). Having formulated a business plan, the pair obtained backing from a number ofMunster-bascd investors, who initially raised in excess of five million Euros. Cork was chosen as the airline's base because it is Ireland's second most prosperous region, there was a lack of competition and there is passenger growth potential.
