CHINOOK THE EVER-YOUNG TANDEM-ROTOR CONCEPT

Sixty years ago, in March 1945, the prototype of the world's first tandem-rotor helicopter flew at Philadelphia. That successful design led to a lasting line of rotary-wing aircraft which is still as strong as ever. Rebuilt and new-build Boeing CH-47Fs and MH-47Gs are slated to play a vital role in the Joint Vision 2010 Army Aviation programme, which has been revised following the cancellation of the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche.
