EE Canberra in RAF Service

By the time the RAF celebrated its 50th birthday on April 1, 1968, the English Electric Canberra was nearing the end of the line in the bomber role. Already replaced by V-bombers within Bomber Command, the type remained in front-line service with nine squadrons in the nuclear strike role, though none of these was destined to serve for more than another four years. At the time some saw this as the beginning of the end, however, it is now clear that the Canberra's RAF career had barely begun.
