'Realistically' no 777X before mid-2023

THE FORTHCOMING Boeing 777X will "realistically" not be certified until mid-to-late 2023, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). An FAA letter to the manufacturer, sent in May 2021 and seen by The Seattle Times in late June, rejected Boeing's request for a Type Inspection Authorisation (TIA) Readiness permit to undertake a small number of certification flight tests, saying "the aircraft is not yet ready.".The 777X's certification date "is realistically going to be mid-to-late 2023," the letter said, adding that there is uncertainty over an upcoming major software update.According to reports, the letter noted: "The FAA understands that there are many significant problem report items that will be addressed by that version of the software load, including the software fix for the un-commanded pitch event that occurred on December 8, 2020."
