A321XLR assembly under way

AIRBUS HAS started assembling the centre and rear fuselage sections of the first A321XLR, the forthcoming longest-range single-aisle airliner. Premium Aerotec delivered the initial fully equipped Rear Centre Tank (RCT) for the first flight test aircraft to Airbus' Hamburg component assembly facility in May, heralding the start of assembly work on the entire rear fuselage and the centre fuselage sections in the dedicated Structure Pilot Line. The RCT is unique to the A321XLR: it is a permanently installed high-capacity fuel tank making maximum volumetric use of the aircraft's lower fuselage Sections 15 and 17, located behind the main landing gear bay. The tank holds up to 13,100 litres of fuel, giving the A321XLR its 4,000nm range.
