THE US Navy landed its Bell/Boeing CMV-22B Osprey tiltrotor on an aircraft carrier for the first time in late November. An aircraft from the 'Titans' of Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 put down on the flight deck of Nimitz-class USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) white the vessel was conducting routine maritime operations. The CMV-22B will provide combat search and rescue (SAR), carrier onboard delivery, retrieval of special warfare teams and fleet logistics support transport. The US Navy is the third American service to operate the Osprey - the US Marine Corps operates MV-22Bs in the transport role and the US Air Force has the CV-22B.
