AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURER'S news all but dried up after the surge of news releases wrapped around the Paris Air Show in late June. Away from the sales stands of gay Paris, though, various US agencies continue to announce new system and technology-based programmes. These included: an advanced technology unmanned project dubbed Skyborg, led by the Air Force Research Laboratory and aimed at proving autonomous flight control for small, representative, high-speed surrogate aircraft; a new AESA radar for the B-52H Stratofortress, part of Boeing's bid to re-engine and breathe new life into America's near-60-year-old bombers; and a second flight by the Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie UAV under evaluation for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Low Cost Attritable Strike Demonstrator program, designed to operate alongside manned platforms in the Loyal Wingman role.
