On September 12 five Typhoons left RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, on the first leg to the Falkland Islands, where four will replace the Tornado F3s now used by No. 1435 Flight based at RAF Mount Pleasant. Once the Typhoons are operational in the Falklands, the Tornados will be withdrawn. They are likely to be flown home on board chartered Antonov An-124s for scrapping, though one may be left on the Islands for display.
