Many famously successful aircraft suffer problems, delays and cost increases in the first stages of their development, but go on to enjoy great success in service. Others take a little longer to 'come right', giving early customers as many grey hairs as they gave members of the design, development and test teams. Like many historic airliners before it, the mighty Airbus A380 seems to be falling into the latter category.
